St. Thomas Mission

Ongoing Outreach Ministries

1. Sponsor A Child Program

James 1:27, "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress."

St.Thomas Mission, the outreach ministry of our Cathedral initiated a "Sponsor A Child Program" in April 2017.We are currently sponsoring children from six orphanages from India including Children from Attappady St.Thomas Ashram , B.M.P Balagram, Kalhandi, St. Gregorios Balagram at Yacharam, St George Balikagram at Dehu Road, St. Pauls Ashram & Balabhavan Puduppaddi and St Pauls convent & Balikabhavan Puduppaddi. These are some of the most needed areas. We selected these institutions, with an evangelism outreach and these are predominantly non-Christian orphan children from street or from broken families. We have the option to expand our sponsorship program to other needed areas. The expense to sponsor a child is $25 a month, which include accommodation, food, tuition and other basic needs. The sponsor will get a picture of the child and other details. We are currently sponsoring 78 children and the program will continue to be available to those like to participate. We hope and pray all of us who can afford, support this sponsorship program and make a difference in the lives of these orphan children, thereby sharing the Love of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2. Orthodox Church Prison Ministry

I was in prison and you came to visit me. [ Mathew 25.36]

St.Thomas Mission has decided to establish a Prison Ministry at our Cathedral in coordination with Eastern Orthodox Church Prison ministry[OCPM]. Representatives from OCPM came to our Cathedral in our first combined meeting on August 5, 2017.

St.Thomas Mission participated in The Annual Advent Party on December 16th,2017 for the Children of Prison Ministry organized by OCPM at St Joseph Orthodox Church, Houston.

Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry of Houston provided gifts this Advent Season to the children of incarcerated parents who live Houston and surrounding areas. Children with parents locked away in prison are the silent victims economically, socially, and spiritually. Without some intervention, 70% of the children will be incarcerated in their lifetime.

We need more volunteers and support from all spiritual organizations for the success of this ministry.
